Get indexed, get ranked, get traffic

There is no doubt that website traffic is critical to your business success. And the best kind of traffic is free traffic. Where does free traffic come from? Google and other search engines.

How does Google give out free traffic?

This is something you’ve experienced first hand countless times. You visit your favorite search engine. Enter the words you’re interested in. And click one of the links that shows up. Well, the link you clicked on just send free traffic to that website owner. What need to figure out is how to get you free traffic.

If you’re like most people you only click links on the first page or two. Actually, almost 100% of the free traffic goes to this first page of results. And believe it or not, the first 3 results receive over 70% of the traffic.

This means that to get any real traffic you need to be on the first page in Google. To do that, you need to be “ranked” in Google’s Top 10 results. And this bring us to…

What is search engine optimization?

SEO means that your website is clearly about something specific, Google knows that that is and thinks others will agree and find your site useful. The intricate formula Google uses to figure this out is really only known by Google. There are several factors that we do know.

Getting indexed

Before you can get ranked, Google has to first know your site exists. This is called getting “indexed.” This is when Google looks at your site and take notes about it, which are stored in their database.

In order to get indexed, Google has to be able to find you. And the best way for Google to find you is to get inbound links from other sites. Because Google already knows about these sites, it will follow the new links to you.

A couple of great places to do this are in your Twitter or Facebook profiles. Because these sites are indexed multiple times every day. So your new link will get indexed very quickly.

Gaining ranking

Once you have been indexed, you will start working on increasing your rank. Just getting indexed does you almost no good, considering that Google has billions of pages in their database.

Here’s what’s important in ranking:

  • Content
  • Links
  • Activity

SEO content

This is also called on-page SEO. It’s critical that your page content is consistent with the keyword phrases you’re targeting. Clearly this article is about search engine optimization. One way Google figures this out is from the fact that it contains the term SEO. And another way this is determined is by the other related phrases like traffic generation that are also in the article.

In addition to the content on the page, other things to keep in mind are the title tags on the page, and the domain name itself. These all play a part in helping Google determine what your website is about.

Link strategy

The second factor is your linking. The links coming in and the links going out are included in this. It’s very important that you have more links coming in than you have going out. The more inbound links you have the better your ranking will be.

A very easy way to get a lot of links to your site is through article marketing. To accomplish this you start by writing an article that targets the keywords you’re after. You have to also write several different versions of your articles. And then upload a different versions to a bunch of sites that allow you to add content. The more sites you can do this for, the more links you’ll get back.

Getting activity

And lastly, it’s seems clear that Google expects important pages to be actively updated. Static pages that just sit may rank at first, but will fall off over time. Regular content updates to your site are expected. One way to keep adding new content it through RSS feeds.

Comments from other people on your page are another fantastic way to keep your content updated. So, obviously, you need to get people to visit your site on your own, too. One simple method for doing this is to use forums.

Set up forum profiles with the ones related to your website. And post their often. Always include a link back to your site. This generates even more links back to your site. And it also gets people to your web page.

Conclusion

All of the above is important. But let’s face it, writing multiple versions of the same article. Creating profiles on a ton of forums. And visiting all the sites to post up your comments and articles takes a really long time. And you’re already too busy, so you mostly likely will never do any of it.

The good news is that there are automated software programs out there that will do this for you. So my best advice is to automate as much of this as you can. This way you’ll actually do it. And not doing it means you will never get free traffic from Google.

Perhaps by now you have heard the buzz surrounding how mobile phone marketing is the ideal way to reach customers. If you find the concept appealing due to the fact that nearly all of the text messages people receive on their cell phones are actually read, then perhaps it is time for you to consider taking your business model to the next level. As you know, nearly everyone today carries a cell phone with them at all times, so the medium is in place to provide the ultimate marketing solution to all kinds of business owners.

Mobile marketing can be done by a variety of business types as it is not limited to only those people who sell tangible items. To illustrate, restaurants and bars can utilize cell phone marketing by sending their customers meal specials and happy hour deals. Restaurant clientele can be notified when you have updated your menu or are offering some type of special event at your establishment.

For retailers, mobile marketing allows you to send promotional codes that are available only to those customers who opt in to receive your messages. Retailers can announce new items and in-store events. Gift shop and specialty stores can offer cell phone reminders for future holidays and offer discounts on selected gifts for each upcoming holiday.

Automotive services can also take advantage of mobile marketing by offering customers reminders for vehicle maintenance and tune-ups as well as for sending products and service promotions.  People who are in the entertainment field can promote featured performers, publish upcoming events and offer coupons for early ticket purchases or for reduced cover charges.

As you can see, mobile marketing is a terrific way for a variety of business types to get the word out. The beauty of this type of marketing is that it is instantaneous and targeted. Your message will undoubtedly be read immediately after you send it, and if you come up with a clever marketing strategy, you can offer your customers enticing incentives for following through on your offers.

Considering how competitive most fields of business are,  as a business owner you must do everything you can to stay in touch with your customers and to offer them services and/or products that they will purchase from you. Instead of having to rely on email marketing which can become costly and often returns very few results-you can send your message wirelessly and you are all but guaranteed that your targeted customers will indeed read the text messages immediately and will likely act on them as well.

Today, thousands of savvy business owners are using mobile marketing, or SMS marketing as it is also called, to offer customers promotional programs. The key to success with mobile marketing is based on the principle of choice, meaning that your customers sign up for your program because they actually wish to receive your offers. Marketing just does not get any better than this!

Gone are the days of having to place expensive ads in newspapers with the slim hopes that the right kind of people find and read the ads. Wireless advertising has grown in leaps and bounds the past couple of years and the response rate to this type of advertising is thought to be as high as 50%. There is simply no other medium that provides this type of return. Sweetening the deal is the fact that text advertising is also very easy to track. You can measure the results to determine your exact ROI (return on investment) for every single promotion campaign you run.

In Europe and Asia, cell phones have been widely used for promotion and this trend is gradually catching on in the United States as well. The reason that it has not been done much in the U.S. earlier is due to the fact that it was often impossible to send text messages from one cell phone carrier subscriber to another user who had a different carrier. Thankfully, this technicality has been remedied and business all across the U.S. are finding new and creative ways to effectively grow their brand and increase sales, traffic and customer loyalty through the use of mobile marketing.

With cell phone marketing, you can send coupons to your customers or other promotions you run. You can keep you customers informed of new products and services, and as a result, you should enjoy an increase in business and sales.

Mobile marketing is effective for any type of business that wishes to attract more customers or extend the reach of where their information can go. Since over 90% of all cell phone messages are actually read, you have the assurance knowing that your message is received and read promptly. You can then take it a step further by offering incentive discounts if the offer is acted on in a specified period of time.

If you are experiencing a lack of sales and wish to take your marketing efforts to a whole new level, then by all means consider jumping into the mobile marketing arena. It is the new trend of the future, so the quicker you jump on board the quicker you can gain a strong foothold in your particular field of business.

Work at Home vs. Running your Own Business

When you make that all important decision to drop your outside job and start working from home, there’s one more thing you need to decide. Do you want a job that you perform at home or do you want to run your own business? While this may sound a lot alike, there are some definite differences between the two. These differences are things you need to be aware of so you can make an informed decision.

With a work at home job, you should not have to be investing any of your own money in order to work. You are basically an independent contractor and you are paid to perform a service of some sort. Essentially, you are on your own but you will have clients that you choose, and these are the people you answer to regarding work deadlines and quality. To own and run a business, there is typically an initial cash outlay that is needed to get things started, and you will be responsible for gathering this money.

Working at home can mean that you are employed by a company that allows their staff to telecommute. In this instance, you just have the convenience of working from your home, but you are still on the schedule of someone else, as well as answering to a boss. Independent contractors are a bit different. As an independent contractor, you get to make a lot of your decisions. If you get a client who starts telling you what days and hours you WILL work, along with other things that seem a bit controlling, it’s time to have a conversation with this client. An independent contractor is allowed to agree or disagree with terms that are not in his or her best interests.

As a business owner, you are responsible for doing all the work. If you need help in your business, you are responsible for hiring that help, as well as firing them if they don’t work out. You keep records and do the bookkeeping, along with any inventory that you may carry. You’re the owner AND the boss. No one will ever be peering over your shoulder telling you that that there’s a better way to do things. This means, of course, that you’re also responsible for whether or not your business succeeds or fails. While that’s a bit scary in and of itself, remember that as long as you have done your research ahead of time, there’s no reason why you should not succeed with flying colors.

Owning a business can be exciting, and it can also cause paralyzing fear. For this reason, and others, you may not feel that you’re quite ready to dive off of that particular cliff just yet. As working from home is meant to be a good decision and keeping your spirits up about work, if you feel better and happier working at a job from home, by all means, that’s what you should do. There’s no shame in that. Either of these is a great option. Just choose the one that’s right for YOU.

Ground Rules for Working at Home

Do you dream of waking up in the morning, getting a cup of coffee, and sitting down to work in your pajamas? Or maybe you just love the idea of working at your own pace or making your own schedule without someone always peering over your shoulder. Are you sick of other people caring for your children more than you do because you have an “outside” job? All of these and many more reasons are why people just like you make the decision every day to work from home. It’s a momentous decision, there’s no denying that. The majority of people who decide to take the plunge are usually much happier. However, there ARE some very important ground rules that you need to keep in mind when starting out on your own working at home. Consider the following:

1.Always remember that if something sounds too good to be true, it most likely is. Even the most educated person can get caught up in a scam so if it happens to you at some point, don’t be embarrassed. There are many scam artists who are QUITE GOOD at what they do and it’s a shame that they don’t put their talents to use legally. Just use your common sense and intuition before signing on for something that sounds a bit fishy to you.

2.NEVER EVER PAY FOR A JOB! The exception to this, of course, are franchises where you are actually investing in the business, or opening your own business. If you come across anything during your job search that tells you to send money and they will send you a list of places where you can work, etc., please run, don’t walk, away from them as fast as possible.

3.Envelope stuffing is not now, nor has it EVER been, a legitimate way to make money from home. It just doesn’t happen. You are NOT going to make a $1,000 a week stuffing envelopes. In fact, the truth about these little operations is that they are the biggest scams running today and people are STILL falling for them. The way these people make their money is by advertising in different publications to get others to send them a onetime fee of a set amount of money. Once this money is sent, you are supposed to receive all the supplies and information you need to stuff envelopes and make money. Once these criminals get your money, they’ll vanish into thin air and leave you $20 poorer. Please see rule 1 and 2.

4.If you get emails stating that someone from another country needs YOUR bank account to collect on an inheritance, delete these emails instantly! You’ll be offered some extravagant sum of money for your trouble but all you’ll see is an empty bank account. These people are thieves, nothing less, and they want your personal information to commit identity theft.
5.Finally, take measures to ensure that both you and your client understand the terms of service and payment. Your type of business may even need a contract. Whatever else you do, always protect yourself.
