Linkbaiting, is something you as a webmaster should be doing every time you write a post, article, or just about anything online for that matter. Back links, especially natural unsolicited back links are a excellent thing, a really excellent thing! You should always place out the highest quality content you’re capable of, always.
Making content that prompts one-way in-coming links from other webmasters is not only complimentary but also a “vote” of confidence that Google cannot ignore.
The methods you use to try and get people to link to your content is only limited by your imagination, and some will stop at nothing in order to succeed, hence the terrible rap linkbaiting has gotten in some circles.
The “ethics” of linkbaiting aside, I want to offer what I feel are the five best techniques for getting other webmasters to link to your content.
So without further adu, here are my five favorite linkbaiting techniques:
Make the best content-Cover your topic better than anyone else has! Become the ultimate resource for information on your topic. Use video, images, and audio in your posts. Make your content useful, provocative, attention grabbing, provide real value to your readers, make them want to link to your content!
Be the first-Break the “huge” tale in your niche. This can be very effective in getting some of those back links. Always stay up-to-date on the happenings in your niche, be on the “cutting edge” of anything that’s new or ground breaking in your niche.
Provide a free tool or piece of software-This can really make the back links show up! If you are unable (like me!) to produce the tool or software, you can always buy it or pay someone to code it for you. The more useful and “used” the tool or software the more links it will generate.
Give a list of needed links-Tell your visitors where they can find more quality information on the subject of your post. Save them from having to Google it and search through the results. Make your list (the best it can be!)
Everyone likes free stuff-Give it away-and they will come. Not only that they will tell their friends about it!
Use these techniques, and use them consistently as you write your content, wether it’s blog posts, articles, website content, etc. and you will find your offerings linked to more and more often. And naturally occurring backlinks are the best kind!
