Building a FAN base on the most widely used Social Media platform Facebook
Would you watch a television channel that only showed commercials? Would you listen to a radio station that played ads all day long? No. No one would. If your Facebook page is mainly being used to post advertisements or promotions for your product/service, you are not properly utilizing social media. There is a reason why your page only has a few dozen "FANS". People will not go out of their way to be marketed to and if that is all you have to offer them, you will be ignored.
Using "SOCIAL MEDIA" sites (such as Facebook/Twitter) as a tool to grow your business will be different from any other form of advertising/media that you may currently use or have used in the past. This is obtained by building a large captive audience in the form of "FANS". You're not trying to grab attention in a matter of seconds like with colorful print ads, mail pieces or a catchy jingle in your TV/radio commercials, and your goal should not be to gain "FANS" just so you can bombard them with advertisements. The internet doesn't have a time-limit and there is no need for you to rush to make sales through it; the main purpose of your online presence should be to showcase your brand and establish credibility and trust with your "FAN BASE".
Utilizing Facebook/Twitter properly allows you to directly interact with your targeted audience, however, you will need to acquire that audience. The key to attracting a person's attention, in any medium, is to provide them with quality content. It's as easy as providing games for them to play, consistently making interesting/informative and entertaining posts, hosting contests for them to enter and giving prizes to loyal fans. Your Facebook page should be thought of as a 30-second TV spot but as the entire channel, not as a 1-page ad but as the entire newspaper/magazine. You will be maintaining the audience's attention with a large amount of content and interaction, while the advertisements for your product are used very moderately.
Try to maintain as much attention as possible, for as long as possible, so take a more passive approach to marketing. Focus less on selling and more on positive interaction with your "audience/FANS". Keep things fun and engaging. It would be in your best interest to take advantage of this open forum to show your FANS that you are not just another faceless company. Also, listen to your customers' feedback, highlight positive comments on your page and quickly fix any negative issues that a customer may have... even if it costs you money in the short-term to fix those problems. You have thousands upon thousands of "FANS" watching, show them that you care about your brand and reputation.
Assembling an audience online can be very stressful or seem tedious. Not everyone has the time to dedicate to this task and not everyone knows how to successfully achieve this task. In most cases, it would be a better use of time and money to outsource this work to people who know the industry well and can promise results.. such as us, for example. For the past 2 years, we've been perfecting the "art" of amassing a online "FAN BASE". We've be able to take companies with a few hundred "FANS" and acquired them several hundred-thousand "FANS" in a matter of months. We have hundreds of customers, spread across multiple industries.
