Effective Techniques For Keyword Research

To achieve search engine dominance you can gain an advantage by focusing on keyword research. After working with dozens of clients on competing effectively in a given niche, I’ve discovered how powerful the right type of keyword research can be for generating improved rankings and traffic. When competing in a difficult niche, the keywords you choose can make the difference between long term success or failure.

The first step is finding a keyword that isn’t all that competitive. Once you do, the next step is to make sure that the keyword you’ve selected gets enough traffic. Don’t overlook this important aspect of keyword research. I worked with a company that was proud of their number one rankings. When I did some research to find out the type of traffic they could expect, I found less than one hundred searches per month on the keyword they selected. Even with top rankings, they would never see the traffic anticipated.

Once you have found a keyword that isn’t too competitive and receives an adequate number of monthly searches, the next step is to take a look at your competition. Google the keyword phrases you want to optimize for a run a back link check on the top three ranked web sites. This will show you the strength of those web sites relative to their search engine ranking. The more links, the more difficult it will be to rank higher than they do without some type of sustained link building campaign.

Once you’ve conducted your keyword research and determined which keyword phrase you are going to optimize for, it’s time to focus on optimizing your web pages. This can be done by focusing on on-page optimization techniques and off-page optimization techniques. Start with a well formatted web site that includes keyword phrases in meta tags, page titles, and so on. Then turn your attention to off page optimization which includes building links and getting your site listed in major directories and social media profiles. Add additional link building techniques like bookmarking to enhance the quality of your web pages and web sites.

Your plan should include daily, weekly and monthly activities designed to attract links from authority websites consistently over time. Your goal should be to build links slowly because Google will penalize your website. Rather, focus on steady link building. If you want to enhance your organic search engine ranking, begin with keyword research. By selecting the right keywords, you’ll be able to optimize your website faster than your competitors. After choosing the right keywords, integrate your chosen keywords into your web site. Then you’re ready for link building and other off page optimization tactics that significantly improve rankings.

Folksonomies” – a New Viral Marketing Tool

November 22, 2009 by Damon Nelson

Folksonomies is a current trend in the Internet. It is a tool that allows users to organize files they have uploaded online, and to easily make the content accessible to other Internet users. This method is also known as tagging. I think this is more familiar to you, compared to the term Folksonomies. This is a helpful tool for marketeers, as it allows them to spread out info about their products and services on a global level.

Here’s how tagging works: Using sites such as del.icio.us – a bookmark sharing site – and Flickr – a photo sharing site – consumers are collaborating on categorizing online content under certain keywords, or tags.

For example, an Internet user uploaded a photograph from their iPod to their Flickr account, and tagged it as “iPod”. The image that was uploaded would then appear in the collection that has “iPod” as a tag. Hence, the image could be accessed by other Internet users too. In addition, people who search for “iPod” pictures would also see this. Today, Flickr have 5,000 photos that are filed under “iPod”.

Tagging is catching on because it is a natural complement to search. Type the word “blogs” into Google and it can’t tell if you are searching for information about how to launch a blog, how to read blogs, or just what. Large and small sites alike are already getting on to the folksonomy train. They are rolling out tag-like structures to help users more easily locate content that’s relevant to them.

Despite some drawbacks of tagging, marketers should still take advantage of this feature to cope with the American public. You may subscribe to RSS feeds to monitor how other Internet users are tagging related contents to your product, service, or company. You may consider this as free online focus groups, that are available 24 hours a day. The sites that I have mentioned above are free to use. Hence, marketeers can utilize these to launch a viral promotion. Of course, you must be cautious too, as the tags you’ve made might be considered as spam.
